Pondover Road runs east from Pond Street, north of Billerica Centre, through the Pondover Estate subdivision. It was laid out as "Pondover Street" on "Pondover Estate, Billerica, Mass.," owned by Mount Vernon Builders, Inc., and drawn by K. J. Miller Co., civil engineers and land surveyors of Burlington, on May 9, 1963. The Planning Board signed the plan on May 23, 1963, and it was recorded on June 7, 1963 in Plan Book 98 as Plan 107, in three sheets. A note says the sheets were "drawn from information provided on previous sub-division plans prepared by John F. Mahoney Associates, Danvers," which have not been found. The plan shows lots of about 25,000 to 32,000 square feet on both sides of the street, which curves at its eastern end. The origin of the name Pondover has not been found.
Many of the houses on the street are two-family houses; the oldest date from about 1965, and the name had become Pondover Road by 1967. The town meeting accepted it on April 3, 1968, when under Article 116, submitted by the Board of Public Works, it "VOTED to accept Pondover Road as a public way."
In October 2017, as part of sewer contract 35, the "frequently failing six inch water main" on the street was replaced with 2,045 feet of eight inch ductile iron pipe, connected to the twelve inch main in Pond Street, and the main on Rosa Circle was replaced at the same time. Pondover Road was repaved in fiscal 2018.
